Learn to Grow in the Garden Series: Herbs

What do the words Old Man’s Love, Bedbug, Bouncing Bet, Bread and Cheese, Knitbone have in common? These were the names of herbs we use today. Which herb was the source for the blue paint worn by the Scots in Braveheart? Which was used by the Aztecs to mellow their victims prior to sacrifice? Why were some herbs linked to witchcraft? Did you know that Shakespeare’s’ use of over 20 herbs in his plays was not just incidental? Join us as we delve into the history, lore and myths of some of the more than 200 herb varieties growing in the Herbs Beds of the Master Gardeners Demonstration Gardens.

All Learn to Grow in the Garden classes are open to everyone and held at the Botanical Center, 2400 S. Scenic Ave, Springfield, MO, from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm. Cost is $5 (payable in the gift shop).
