What is the Speakers Bureau?
We are volunteer members of the Master Gardeners of Greene County chapter who are available to speak to garden clubs, civic organizations, schools and other groups on a wide variety of topics within the world of gardening, horticulture, landscaping and the environment.
Speakers choose the topics in which they feel proficient, and offer slide or PowerPoint programs to illustrate their talk. The Speakers Bureau also offers a limited number of demonstrations and hands-on workshops.
Who Will Be My Speaker?
All members of the Speakers Bureau are Certified Master Gardeners with advanced knowledge and interest in the subjects in which they speak. They have received training in horticulture from the University of Missouri Extension and serve as volunteers providing educational information and training to the public. When you choose your topic, we will find a speaker who is available on that date. Once you have confirmed with the Speakers Bureau, we will provide a brief biography of your speaker, sufficiently in advance for use in publicity, if needed. Please visit our Speaker Biographies for information regarding our available speakers and their specialties.
What Subjects Do You Speak On?
See the list of topics in the Speakers Bureau Brochure (2013) to see what topics we have available. Is there a subject of special interest to your group not listed? Don’t hesitate to ask. We may be able to find someone to fulfill your request. Speakers choose the topics in which they feel proficient, and offer slide or PowerPoint programs to illustrate their talk. The Speakers Bureau also offers a limited number of demonstrations and hands-on workshops.
How Much Do You Charge?
Our volunteer speakers do not accept payment for their time. Many use their own resources as well as valuable literature and materials provided by the University of Missouri Extension. Although there are no fees for our presentations, a minimum honorarium of $25 is strongly encouraged to support the volunteer community projects of the Master Gardeners of Greene County. This helps to offset costs incurred with program development, materials, expenses, and educational programs sponsored by our chapter. In some instances, mileage and fuel reimbursement may be required for a speaker to travel to an engagement.
