When: Friday, October 3, 2014
Where: Master Gardener Demonstration Garden

ChefCraigVonFoersterChef Craig von Foerster will be grilling vegetables in the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden from 4:00-6:30 p.m. He will also be serving a slider sandwich (local pork) on homemade bread with potato salad.

Von Foerster left his job as Sierra Mar Executive Chef in California to come to a Rogersville farm inherited by his wife Tamara. They are currently planning a small farm-to-table restaurant, not just vegetables, but also beef, pork, charcuterie, and cheese. Chef von Foerster now raises bees, makes honey, and grows produce at their Rogersville farm. For more information, go to www.fromtabletofarm.com.

Entertainment will be provided by Springfield’s own merry band of musical pranksters, The Garbonzos, who will be strolling through the garden. The garbonzos and Chef von Foerster were both big hits last year at the Friday night Master Gardener Convention gala held in the Demonstration Garden and the rooftop patio of the Botanical Center. Find more info at www.garbonzoband.com.

DrToddLasseigneMove over to the Darr Center at 7:00 p.m. for a lecture by Dr. Todd Lasseigne who calls himself a “ragin’ Cajun,” a storyteller and a “garden geek.” He is a well known plantsman who has traveled extensively throughout the world collecting new landscape plants. He has visited at least 355 botanical gardens worldwide. His
topic will be Plant Collecting and he will also give an update on the Tulsa Botanic Garden (Todd is president and CEO).

We will hear how he plans to make the Tulsa Botanic a truly unique botanic garden which will reflect Oklahoma and its plant life. Born in Thibodaux, LA of French Cajun descent, he is the proud son of a horticulturist and the grandson of sugar cane farmers. He is known to be a fascinating speaker. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear an extraordinary speaker.
