Welcome to the University of Missouri Extension Master Gardeners of Greene County!

The MU Extension Master Gardener program, established in 1983, is based on the original Master Gardener program conceived at Washington State University in the 1970’s. The Master Gardener program has been replicated in many states and several countries. On a local level, the Master Gardeners of Greene County were formed in 1984 soon after the state program was established.

Master Gardeners come to this program for a variety of reasons. They stay because they continue to learn, are proud to be providing such a valuable and important service and treasure the friendships with others who share a common interest. MU Extension depends on volunteers to help extend its resources and information to the public. As you know, volunteers are not paid with money but in ways that are special to each person. We hope that the gratitude of your fellow paid workers in the extension office and state staff will help you feel that your unique contributions and commitment to the program are appreciated.

You are, after all, a special MU Master Gardener volunteer educator with horticulture and communication skills that qualify you to do interesting and challenging work. Certainly, the number of citizens who come to you for advice indicate that you and your knowledge are valued and needed. Pride in a job well done while helping others and a sense of accomplishment are rewards that only you can collect.
