The Master Gardeners of Greene County invite you to attend our Annual Spring Native Plant Sale at Hickory Hills Elementary School on April 29, 2019 through May 3, 2019, from 8:30 am-2:00 pm. Hickory Hills Elementary is located at 4650 E Division St (State Highway YY), Springfield, MO 65802.
Hickory Hills Elementary is one of the first local organizations to embrace the current trend in native plantings in public places with the Hickory Hills Prairie Restoration Project. Started in 2012, this project is focused on creating an integrated naturalized setting using native Missouri plants for use as an outdoor classroom for kindergarten through 8th grade students. The Master Gardeners of Greene County, led by Kay Johnson, have been teaching students the joys of planting and harvesting in the school’s rooftop greenhouse. The children are also learning that landscaping with native plants cuts down on labor and lasts much longer than traditional ‘exotic’ landscape choices. Hickory Hills is the first school in the district to be certified in the LEED program, which stands for leadership in energy and environmental design.
Join us and find the perfect specimen for your native, ornamental, rock, shade, or water-wise garden! nThe following species will be included in the sale: Swamp milkweed, rough blazing star, Eastern blazing star, rock pink, penstemon, purple poppy mallow, gray headed coneflower, little bluestem & prairie dropseed grasses.
Payment is by cash or check in the school office. Come out and support the Hickory Hills Greenhouse!
