Monday February 26, 2018 – STARTING YOUR OWN KITCHEN GARDEN
Pat DeWitt- Advanced Master Gardener of Greene County

For new Gardeners or gardeners who are starting over you will learn the basic foundations for a successful garden. Topics covered will include Soil, Sun, Water, Spacing, and Location of your garden. All participants will receive a handy booklet that contains all the basic information on starting a vegetable garden, a planting calendar, and  useful information on challenges and benefits to growing your own food. We will discuss ways to store and use the bounty of your harvest.  Booklet is provided through the Grow Well Missouri program, Interdisciplinary Center for Food Security, University of Missouri.

Monday March 12, 2018 – GROWING STRAWBERRIES

Strawberries are a versatile and easy-to-grow berry for the Ozarks.  Join Patrick for a discussion of the best strawberry cultivars for SW Missouri, preparing a garden spot for strawberries, planting and growing these interesting plants, harvesting a bountiful crop, and managing pests (diseases, insects, weeds).

Monday March 26, 2018 – USING FOLIAGE FOR COLOR IN THE GARDEN

Many flowering plants have a short period of bloom.  Plants with colorful foliage can provide interest through the entire season with fairly low maintenance. This session will offer suggestions for both annuals and perennials that provide colorful foliage for your space.

Monday April 2, 2018 – TRIED AND TRUE PLANTS FOR THE OZARKS

Planting and maintaining a garden in the Ozarks can be a real challenge but you don’t have to sacrifice beauty for durability.  Learn about some of my favorite plants that add true beauty to your gardens year after year without a lot of maintenance and care.  My list of tried and true plants includes conifers, broadleaf evergreens, blooming shrubs and perennials.

Monday April 9, 2018 – PLANTS FOR A JAPANESE GARDEN IN THE OZARKS

We will discuss the design concepts of the Mizumoto Japanese Stroll Garden; plants for structure in all seasons and extending the bloom season. Park and meet at the Japanese Stroll Garden.  ($5 for PSU, no additional fee required)

Everyone loves houseplants and many people began their love of gardening through caring for them.  Learn about houseplant history, common insect pests, tough and durable varieties and all aspects of care and propagation.
